PCP fails to workup findings of abnormal PSA level and enlarged prostate

In another case involving the diagnosis of prostate cancer, the law firm that handled this matter reported a recovery of $591,000.  The case arose when a 73 year old male patient was diagnosed with prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.  Prior to this, the patient’s primary care physician had conducted a PSA test, the blood test that measures the level of prostate specific antigen in the blood, which had come back elevated.  The primary care physician had also conducted a physical examination in which he noted that the patient’s prostate was enlarged.  The spread of the cancer could have been avoided if the primary care physician had ordered a proper workup at the time of these abnormal results.
