Remember “QUALMS” when shopping for cheap hard drives
May 7, 2011 7:34 am Computers and TechnologyLike so many things having to do with computers, it can get pretty confusing when you’re in the market for cheap hard drives. But have no fear. You can do it, especially if you remember to have QUALMS. Start with Q for quality. Inexpensive should not equal shoddy. Then go to U for used. In the world of computers there are lots of used components. Decide if you can live with a used hard drive if it costs less, which it does.Computer peripherals go out of date quickly. Consider the A for age of the model and decide if you need the latest and greatest or will the older and okay do? L is for life. What’s the past life of the drive and how much longer can you reasonably expect it to continue to work? Then there’s the M for memory. The more your drive will hold, the more it will cost. Finally, the S is for speed. ‘Nuff said.
