Poor Button Placement, Calling People From My Pocket, and Overzealous Voice Control
October 24, 2010 3:46 am CommunicationsI cannot count the number of times that I have bent down to pick something up from the floor, and I suddenly hear the words ‘Please say a command’ coming from my pocket. Having a button on the outside of the phone to initiate voice commands is necessary, but it certainly does cause a telephone problem. My mother has the same model of cell phone, and I probably get a call from her purse at least a couple of times every month. I thought that getting a phone with a touch screen might solve this. It didn’t. I don’t know if this is the fault of my pants or of the design teams for cell phones, but I have had trouble with accidental button presses ever since I ditched my brick phone in the late nineties. I know that some phones have key lock features, but then I have to unlock the keypad every time that I want to do something more complex than seeing what time it is. I guess that frequency of accidental use is a small price to pay for ease of use. Someday I will find the perfect phone, but I’m not holding my breath.
